Recipe: Chocolate Macaroons (Raw) :: Easy Like A Sunday Morning
Easy Like a Sunday Morning, that’s how the recipes in my “Easy” category will be. Nothing rushed or frantic, nothing with a long list of ingredients. Something that is so easy, you don’t really need a recipe. Something that almost cooks itself or requires no cooking at all.
These no-bake (raw) Chocolate Macaroons are a copy cat version of these ones by Organic Lives. I can’t claim they will be “the most fudgy-delicious and nutritious organic macaroon you will ever taste” but they are pretty darn good.
I discovered Organics Lives Chocolate Macaroons through our home delivery service by Green Earth Organics. Have you ever considered using home delivery for groceries? It’s not something we had given much thought to until this past July after we stopped by the Green Earth Organics booth at the EP!C Sustainable Living Festival in Vancouver.
Green Earth Organics’ Festival Special Offer of $10 off our first order, no long-term contract, cancel or put deliveries on hold at any time policy got our attention. In addition, they stock products that I already buy but I used to drive around to different stores for what I needed. Their prices are pretty competitive. Think what prices you would expect to pay for Organic Groceries at a Whole Foods Store. Except you get to stay put and submit your grocery list from wherever. I sent mine in while visiting in the Okanagan last weekend.
Mostly we order fresh organic, locally sourced (when possible) produce, dairy and eggs. Often I pick out something new that I’ve never tried before. The Organics Lives Chocolate Macaroons are one of those little extras that I’ve fallen in love with and will order from time to time but at almost $5 for three macaroons, it’s a bit too pricy to have all the time.
This copy cat version is not an exact replica. They’re not as moist, fudgy-delicious and I doubt they’re as nutritious as the originals but they do help satisfy my cravings for chocolate and something slightly sweet without being as icky sweet and caloric laden as a Chocolate Chip Cookie, or **gasp** a chocolate bar, or **double gasp** a DQ Skor Blizzard.
Organic Lives sells some of their Chocolate Macaroon ingredients (organic cold-pressed Thai coconut butter, organic Thai coconut flakes (dried at very low temperature), organic raw Balinese cacao powder, organic Quebec heritage maple syrup, OrganicLives Thai coconut oil, organic & bio-dynamic Indian vanilla powder) through their online store **Note: if you’re in the Vancouver area you can save the Shipping Charges by picking up your order at their Burnaby warehouse. I suppose if I were to order the ingredients from them I could make a pretty good knock-off but I think it’s nice to indulge in the real thing once in a while.
If you want to treat yourself to something extra special, I highly recommend ordering some of the Chocolate Macaroons from Organic Lives. The rest of the time, whip up a batch of these to keep on hand. It only takes about 5 minutes to make this copy-cat version.
I’m trying to cut back on the sweets, so I intentionally kept the batch small. You should get about 10-12 macaroons in a batch but can easily double it if you like. They keep very well sealed in a container in the refrigerator. I think they are even better on day two or three after the ingredients have had a good chance to meld together.

- Place all ingredients in a food processor and process until well blended. The mixture will be very thick. Use your hands to roll into small balls, or use a small cookie scoop. Drop on parchment lined cookie sheet. Chill in refrigerator for an hour or two before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
- If you prefer softer macaroons, allow them to come to room temperature before serving.
- Melt a little white chocolate and drizzle on top before chilling the macaroons.
