25 Gluten Free Recipes for the Grill {with Paleo options}

It’s been a while since we’ve had a recipe roundup on this Fox Kitchen. We’ve got Canada Day on July 1st and Independence Day on July 4th, so what do you think about putting some gluten free grub on the grill for a barbecue, or picnic?

Before we get started, let’s see what Jan at Family Bites has to say about smart grilling practices. Grilling Tips For Dummies – 9 Tips For Guaranteed Grilling Success

Gluten Free Recipes for the Grill

Chicken:

  • This easy recipe for Honey Pecan Chicken (Paleo) is one that ends up on the grill quite often here in this Fox Kitchen
  • This recipe for Grilled Lemon Pepper Chicken from The Recipe Critic is a simple one. The chicken sits in a marinade overnight. I think the grilled lemons are a lovely touch and the naturally gluten free ingredients in this recipe make it suitable for Paleo
  • I like to freeze chicken breasts in this Citrus Marinade for moist, tender, delicious grilled chicken. This recipe is also Paleo
  • Another Grilled Citrus Chicken recipe, is this one is from Bakers Beans. It features grilled halloom cheese (which I believe might be similar to halloumi cheese) and looks outstanding. On a side note: While researching this grillable cheese, I discovered this recipe for Homemade Haloumi Cheese in an Hour
  • Hands up if you’re a fan of sweet and spicy! We’re together on that one. I’m sure we’ll both enjoy these Honey Sriracha Grilled Chicken Skewers by My Organized Chaos. We just need to modify this recipe slightly by subbing in gluten free soy sauce, or coconut aminos for Paleo
  • Some of the best grilled food come on a stick. Like these BBQ Chicken Kebabs with a Spicy Bacon Rub from Barbara Bakes. As long as you’re careful about your choice of bacon and BBQ Sauce, this recipe can easily be both gluten free and Paleo
  • Booze soaked and then served on a stick … come on! Piña Colada Chicken Skewers with Fennel Cherry Slaw by Newlywed Survival. How can this recipe not be on our must-make-list?

Beef:

Pork:

  • I never would have thought to grill ham on the barbecue but this Maple Orange Dijon Grilled Ham Steak by Seasonal and Holiday Recipe Exchange, has got me thinking it might be just the thing to do. If not for the Orange Marmalade, this one would be Paleo too. Can one of you can help us out with some suggestions for substitutions?

Turkey:

  • Turkey is another thing I never think to cook on the barbecue but the Tasty Turkey site (Turkey Farmers of Canada) has a section dedicated to BBQ recipes. You will find lots of recipes from Canadian Food Bloggers there
  • Because I love grilled food on a stick, I’ve added Maple Mustard Turkey Kebabs with Fennel Arugula Salad to my must-make-list. The recipe is gluten free and Paleo friendly
  • When my friend Jeanine from Faithfully Gluten Free calls something ‘the best’, we can trust her … The Best Grilled Turkey Thighs. With a carefully selected (or homemade) BBQ Sauce you can easily make the recipe Paleo

Sauces:

  • How about this Paleo Rhubarb Habanero BBQ Sauce from The Primal Desire? Described as tangy with a hint of heat, it would be great on ribs, or wings.
  • Or we could grill up some pineapple for this Roasted Pineapple Barbecue Sauce from Rock Recipes. Sub honey or pure maple syrup for the brown sugar and you’ll have a Paleo friendly BBQ Sauce

Sweets:

You’ve got to offer some sort of Dessert, don’t you?

Beverages:

Other:

  • If all the cooking seems like a bit much, or when you’re faced with putting together a sudden impromptu picnic in the backyard, you could always clean out the fridge and offer a Non-Dinner Dinner

Did we cover everything here? What are some of your favourite foods (and/or beverages) to take to, or serve at a summer barbecue, or picnic?

Wishing a Happy Canada Day to my friends and family here in Canada and a Happy 4th of July to those of you who live south of our border!
